Plugins - Gzip Compressed Output
Category: Administrator's Relief

When reading an email message over a certain threshold, this plugin transparently compresses the output so that less data is sent to the browser. If your browser can not handle gzip data, this plugin automatically disables itself.

This is meant to be just one method to compress web pages. You might be better off turning on zlib.output_compression in php.ini or using mod_gzip for Apache.

  • Untarring problems: Your browser might have un-gzipped it for you automatically. Try just "tar xvf" instead of "tar xvfz". Also, the plugins archive isn't gzipped (it is a tarball of .tar.gz files)
  • Macintosh users: Just hold down your mouse button to get the menu instead of right-clicking.
