It seems that Solaris and IBM AIX (and possibly other systems, but none that we know of) experience a strange problem. They think that the time zone is always positive, where as in the US it is negative. SquirrelMail translates the date of the message into your time zone (for your ease). This bug unfortunately makes it look like the time is off by a few hours for messages you are viewing. It isn't a SquirrelMail problem. It's actually because PHP can't figure it out because Solaris doesn't support reading the date very well. Read the PHP source for more information.

To get around this problem, SquirrelMail has a configuration option to invert the time:

  • Using the configuration tool config/conf.pl:
2. Server Settings > 2. Invert Time > Yes
  • Configuring manually
$invert_time = TRUE;
