Why do you implement your own IMAP functions?
One of the fundamental design principles when developing SquirrelMail was to make it easy to install and easy to use. In order to make it easy to install, we have removed many server-side requirements that are necessary in many other webmail clients. One of these requirements is to have PHP compiled with IMAP support. We decided to write our own IMAP libraries to remove this requirement, and it works very well.
